The initiative supports projects that align with USDA activities aimed at reducing food loss and reducing food waste, getting surplus wholesome food to individuals, and developing linkages between food producers, providers, and food recovery organizations. The national SARE Food Loss and Waste Program has launched with a fantastic funding opportunity. The purpose of the grant project is to implement outreach, training and technical assistance efforts to build capacity for food loss and waste initiatives. SARE Food Loss and Waste Program Manager Lisa Johnson will walk participants through the details of the Call for Proposal and answer participant questions related to the grant in a webinar taking place May 7 from 12 p.m. (NOON)- 1 p.m. EST. I would like to thank the SARE program for funding my project to expand the possible economic potential yaks can bring to small acreage farms and larger beef producers. This project has brought together a half dozen agricultural specialists from Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky to work on issues concerning yak husbandry.
